In this preschool science lesson, students will explore the five senses through a series of engaging, interactive activities designed to foster curiosity and enhance observational skills. The lesson begins with a brief introduction to each sense, prompting children to think about their own experiences.
Students will then rotate through five sensory stations, each dedicated to one of the senses: sight, hearing, touch, taste, and smell. At each station, they will participate in hands-on activities that encourage them to observe, describe, and reflect on their sensory experiences. For example, they will use magnifying glasses, identify sounds, explore various textures, taste different foods, and guess scents while blindfolded.
Following the station activities, the class will regroup to share their favorite discoveries and compile a list of their preferred sensory experiences. To reinforce their learning, children will engage in a creative art activity, drawing or painting something inspired by what they experienced during the lesson.
The session concludes with a recap of the five senses and a fun song to solidify their understanding. Throughout the lesson, teachers will assess student engagement and comprehension through observation, verbal descriptions, and the creativity shown in their artwork. Adaptations and extensions are included to cater to diverse learning needs and to encourage further exploration of the senses in real-world contexts.
