Delaware 9th Grade Curriculum

We are excited to present our 9th Grade Curriculum, designed to align with Delaware academic standards and create a holistic educational experience for our students. Our curriculum focuses on nurturing critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration, equipping learners with the skills necessary for success in high school and beyond.

Our English Language Arts program encourages students to engage deeply with literature and informational texts. Through reading a diverse range of genres, students will analyze complex themes, characters, and plots, fostering critical analysis and empathetic understanding. Writing components include persuasive, narrative, and expository pieces, with an emphasis on research skills and proper citation in MLA format. Additionally, students will participate in discussions and presentations, enhancing their speaking and listening abilities, while building confidence in their communication skills.

Our mathematics curriculum focuses on essential concepts such as algebraic equations, inequalities, and functions, laying the groundwork for advanced mathematical understanding. Students will explore geometric principles, including the Pythagorean theorem and spatial reasoning, while also applying statistics and probability to real-world scenarios. By working with ratios and proportions, learners will develop problem-solving skills and the ability to make informed decisions based on data analysis.

In science, students delve into life sciences, physical sciences, and earth and space sciences. They will engage in hands-on experiments, encouraging scientific inquiry and analytical thinking. Topics include cell biology, genetics, motion, energy, and ecosystems. This curriculum not only fosters content knowledge but also emphasizes the scientific method, providing students with a framework for exploring questions and conducting research.

Our social studies curriculum encourages learners to connect with their world through the study of U.S. history, world history, geography, and civics. Students will investigate pivotal moments in history, such as the American Revolution and the Civil War, while examining various civilizations and global conflicts. Geography lessons will help students develop map skills and an understanding of cultural regions, while civics education instills a sense of responsibility and awareness of governmental systems.

The physical education component of our curriculum emphasizes the importance of fitness and wellness. Students will participate in a range of team and individual sports, learning the value of physical activity and teamwork. They will also engage in discussions about healthy lifestyle choices, nutrition, and mental health, fostering holistic well-being.

Our fine arts curriculum allows students to explore various forms of creative expression through visual arts, performing arts, and art history. By studying major artists and art movements, learners will appreciate the impact of art on culture and society. They will develop their own artistic skills, culminating in exhibitions and performances that showcase their talents and creativity.
